Get to know more about Michael in this month’s Consultant Spotlight.

Hometown:  Mission, Texas. The former Dallas Cowboys coach, Tom Landry was born in Mission. My grandmother was his babysitter.

Alma mater: I am a continuing student at the school of life.

All-time favorite restaurant: My mother’s kitchen, which has since closed. I am in the process of writing a book with my mother’s and grandmother’s recipes that will be called Stirring the Pot with Lorraine. All proceeds will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Last book you read: A Promised Land by Barack Obama

Favorite Performer: Madonna. The first time I saw her in concert was in Miami in 2004 and she shook my hand.

What do you do when you’re not working? Gardening as much as I can. It is a great form of therapy and provides instant gratification with curb appeal. I enjoy time with my two Giant Schnauzers, Boomer and Tundra, and plotting for my favorite holiday, Halloween.

How did you find out about HRchitect, and what made you join the company?  I was working at another consulting company and heard of HRchitect.

How has your background impacted your experience as a consultant? My former practitioner experience has really helped create natural synergy with clients. I have been the client-side Project lead for HRIS implementations, including UKG Pro (UltiPro), and consulted independently. This experience helps me anticipate and mitigate challenges my clients may encounter during the implementation process.  As a former HRIS & Payroll Manager, I worked extensively in HRIS & Payroll systems including configuring and navigating the day-to-day functionality, leading with attention to detail and bringing a practical approach to system set-up for entities in the United States and Canada.

In your own words, what do you do at HRchitect and what’s a typical workday like for you?  I start my morning with my favorite brand of coffee called Death Wish. Then I tend to my emails and prepare for meetings. After that, I typically work on configuration or augmentation for my clients. As time permits, I attend continuous training, and assist other HRchitect team members.

Tell me about a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of. I’m extremely proud of a project I worked on with our client BHI Energy. It typically takes around three months to implement the system this client was deploying per company. Working closely with the client we were able to deploy not one but two companies within  30 days.

What’s been one of your favorite destinations to travel to for a client site visit? Massachusetts has been one of my favorite destinations.

As part of a team that works 100% virtually, what technology or collaboration tools do you use to make your work life easier? I am partial to Microsoft Teams, Slack, and my phone.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day? Knowing that I am treated as a person and not just a number in a supportive, nurturing, and respectful organization. Leadership backs every word with corresponding actions, trusts us to do our jobs, and treats us with dignity while ensuring clients do as well. Such attributes in a company are a true diamond in the rough.

Which employee perk that HRchitect offers do you enjoy the most? Why? The biggest and best perk is that we almost have complete autonomy. We are trusted by leadership and each other and we can do our jobs without micromanagement.
